Most recently, Elton clapped back at trolls online and shared that, “people should be held accountable for their 'hateful' remarks.” He also added that people “are so cruel to each other.” His comments come after racist and homophobic comments were made after his interview with Apple Music’s Zayne Lowe and Rina Sawayama.

Elton and Sawayama recently joined forces to collaborate on Rina’s track, “Chosen Family,” which Elton said is all about “bringing people together and loving at a time when people are so hateful to each other and that the world is so divisive.”

Additionally, Katy Perry has had enough of the social media sphere, sounding off in a series of straightforward tweets. The Popstar tweeted, “Social media is trash,” later adding, “the decline of human civilization #ISaidWhatISaid.”

She ended her short rant, still spreading some kindness by signing off with one final tweet that read, “Anyway. Ily.”

It’s not apparent what provoked the “Harleys in Hawaii” singer’s tweets but it may come as a surprise to fans, as she has racked up 109.5 million followers on Twitter alone. According to consumer intelligence company, Brandwatch, Perry holds the 20th spot for most followed account on Instagram, with 11.5 million followers to her platform.

In 2018 Katy told Refinery29, “A lot of us are living for that picture, and then the currency is the like. It's hard because I'd rather not care about that and just live my life. We buy clothing and products or pose a certain way or go to an event to get a picture—it's not good for us as a society. I think it's actually the decline of civilization if we're going extreme about it.”
