While many people may have been relaxing and catching up on some much needed rest this past weekend, Lil Nas X had himself exactly the opposite.

The “Old Town Road” singer sent social media into a frenzy when he unveiled his brand new shows. Teaming up with shoe company MSCHF, Lil Nas X modified Nike Air Max 97s to create the “Satan Shoes,” a limited edition of, appropriately, 666 pairs that feature 60cc ink and one drop of human blood.

The shoes, which cost $1,018 per pair, drew outrage over the weekend as Nike released a statement saying, “We do not have a relationship with Little Nas X or MSCHF. Nike did not design or release these shoes, and we do not endorse them.”

After seeing the outrage on social media, Lil Nas X posted a YouTube video title “Lil Nas X Apologizes for Satan Shoe.”

“OK guys I see everybody’s been talking about this shoe and I just wanted to come forward and say…” He says before the video cuts to a scene from his “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” music video where he dances on Satan’s lap.

Well played Lil Nas X, well played.

Numerous public figures weighed in on the shoes and Lil Nas X was there to take them on. Former NBA player Nick Young said “My kids will never play Old Town road again.. I’m still debating about wearing @Nike after this come nike a drop of blood for real.”

Lil Nas X responded by saying “they shouldn’t be playing old town road anyway, we streaming call me by your name now.”

After South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem called out the shoes, Lil Nas X told her “ur a whole governor and u on here tweeting about some damn shoes. Do ur job!”

Following Fox News commentator Candace Owens’ lengthy tweet, Lil Nas X wrote “you know you did something right when she talks about it.”

In his desire to play devil’s advocate (see what we did there?), Lil Nas X sent out another tweet on Sunday evening writing, “we have decided to drop these to even the score. Damn y’all happy now?”

The new custom shoes feature Chick-fil-A’s logo on the side along with the phrase “My Pleasure” and a reference to the bible verse John 3:16.
