KANSAS CITY - The Great Shakeout Earthquake Drill is today, as Missouri residents are urged to get earthquake ready.
Jeff Briggs is earthquake program manager for the Missouri Emergency Management Agency. He says preparation for an earthquake, especially in a seismically active place like Missouri, is crucial.
Briggs says to pay attention to heavy light fixtures, unsecured bookcases, or heavy items on shelves and move them to lower positions.
The other part of earthquake preparedness…Briggs advises knowing what to do when the shaking starts: drop, cover and hold on.
Over the last year in Missouri, more than 200 earthquakes have been registered on the Richter scale.
