KANSAS CITY - Police in St. Louis are investigating a shooting scene where three have been murdered and one person shot and killed by police. This all started around 4:00 am Friday morning when ShotSpotter was activated in the 5100 block of Wells. Police say when they arrived they found a man dead on a porch.
Officers surrounded a home. ATF was called to respond. Around 7:00am the man inside came out, spoke to officers and then went back in, only to come back out moments later with a rifle.
Police say one of their officers and one ATF agent opened fire. The suspect went back inside the doorway and collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The SWAT team went inside and found 2 more bodies - a woman in the living room and a man in the basement. No officers were physically hurt.
Chief Robert Tracy told KMOX's Stuart McMillian the officers were shaken up, "As they should be when they have to engage in something like this. No officer wants to get into a gun battle with anyone, but they did protect themselves, protect other people."
