KANSAS CITY - St. Louis police got to the scene within 2 minutes of the 911 call at about 7:30p Monday night. Officers rushed the injured child to the hospital in the back of their squad car.

Police spokesperson Mitch McCoy, "When they know that an innocent person, especially a child, needs life saving care, they will do whatever they need to do to get to the hospital, and that's. Exactly what happened tonight."

Investigators say the kids were playing with a gun when it went off in the 3400 block of Cherokee. The boy is expected to be okay.

McCoy tells KMOX investigators used a fire truck ladder to get on top of a nearby building, a Boost Mobile store, to search the roof to try to find the gun.
