KANSAS CITY - More details are on the way about a four-county, state-funded regional police training center.
A 50-million dollar state grant would cover the cost of the facility, likely to be built in St. Louis County, which is partnering with St. Charles, Franklin and Jefferson County. St. Louis County Executive Sam Page says the project has been in the works for years.
St. Charles County executive Steve Ehlmann says quality of police training in the region is uneven and fewer funds are available for training. He says this facility would allow all police to drill in real-world simulations and bring state-of-the-art standards.
The City of St. Louis is not included in the four-county coalition, and the cities of St. Charles and O'Fallon are building their own police training center. They say they'll continue asking for state funding for that.
