KANSAS CITY - The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a man suspected in a rash of package thefts across Kansas City is now behind bars.

Matthew Robinson was arrested Wednesday in Independence, nearly two weeks after a string of Northland package thefts that took place over the Thanksgiving holiday and the weekend that followed.

Robinson, age 41 from Excelsior Springs, is charged with one count of felony theft and one count of felony possession of a controlled substance in the case. These are the same charges faced by his accomplice, 24-year-old Kayley Worthington, who was arrested earlier. A search of her home at the time turned up 51 stolen items and methamphetamine.

The packages were stolen from the porches of residences in Liberty, Smithville, and Kansas City North. At last check, 12 victims of the thefts had been identified, but authorities are still trying to track down others who had packages stolen.
