Armed guards will now ride the KC Streetcar to enforce code of conduct

KANSAS CITY – As the KC Streetcar gets close to opening the new Main St. Extension, armed guards are being added to ensure the rider's code of conduct.

The Kansas City Streetcar Authority has hired a handful of private security guards who will ride up and down the streetcar line. They've been trained by the KC Police Department, specifically focusing on de-escalation tactics, according to the Streetcar Authority.

Meantime, the extension projects down Main St and up into the Berkley Riverfront continue apace.
The KC Streetcar extension down Main St, linking Union Station to the UMKC campus, is set to open next year.
And the Riverfront Extension linking the River Market to Berkley Park is on track o open in 2026.
