KANSAS CITY - Sedgwick County Commission Chair Ryan Baty says the county is facing a "significant challenge" over funding from the Kansas Department of Corrections.
Sedgwick County is the county with the biggest needs; more than 1,100 felony offenders "on our rolls". Baty compares the way Johnson County and Sedgwick County are treated by the state. He says Johnson County will see a million-dollar funding increase next year while Sedgwick County will see a two million-dollar cut. Baty says "we're going to be talking about this a lot".
At Wednesday's meeting, the Sedgwick County Commission will look at the tag office situation, with County Treasurer Brandi Baily. Baty says Baily wants to consolidate operations at the office on Douglas, and opening eight satellite offices around the community.
Baty commented during his weekly appearance with Steve and Ted in the Morning on KNSS.
