(610 Sports) - The Chiefs Thursday/Monday game against the Buffalo Bills did not disappoint. Though it was raining the entire evening and into the night, the Chiefs drew up a game plan that allowed them to control the game from beginning to end and defeat the Bills 26-17.
The running game was impactful, led by Clyde Edwards-Helaire who rushed for well over 161 yards. With the running game working so well, third-string running back Darwin Thompson even got in on the action, with three carries for 17 yards. The Chiefs, as a team, averaged 5.3 yards on the ground and took advantage of the Bills run defense by grinding it out and controlling the game clock, once they took the lead. The Chiefs run game was so effective that they could have run the ball exclusively, and could have still probably won this one.
When the game plan calls for it, this rushing attack has been extremely effective and with the recent signing of Le'Veon Bell, we can only assume that Andy Reid and company will rely more heavily on it once they jump out to early leads, like last night.
The Chiefs defense once again became the unsung hero, being able to pressure and force Josh Allen to make bad throws, throughout. Allen was hit five times and the Chiefs defensive backfield collected four pass deflections, leading to one of Allen's throws to be picked off by "Dirty" Daniel Sorensen to seal the game.
Great bounce back team win for the Chiefs, following their home loss to the Raiders, last Sunday.
Up next: The Chiefs will travel to Denver on 10/25 to take on the Denver Broncos.
