Sedgwick County Commission to approve mental health team for Derby schools

KANSAS CITY - At Wednesday's meeting, the Sedgwick County Commission will look at forming a Mental Health Intervention Team for USD 260, Derby schools. Commission Chair Ryan Baty tells KNSS News state dollars to send COMCARE social workers into schools to deal with mental health concerns. Baty says he is "a big fan" of mental health intervention teams, "I think we need them desperately in our schools."

Wichita Police investigated three separate homicides by firearms Labor Day. Baty shared his frustration with the killings with KNSS News "It's so easy to pull a trigger an end a life." Baty says "it's not acceptable" and we need to solve violent acts "before they happen."

It's back to work this week after the Labor Day weekend. KNSS News asked Sedgwick County Commission Chair and business owner Ryan Baty for his thoughts on working. Baty says he employs "a lot of different people in 27 stores over three states." He says small business is a "family" affair and "healthy businesses have healthy employees."
