Kansas City, MO – While you may have to go back the office now after months of working from home, your pets may not like it so much.

It takes about 4-6 weeks for animals to adjust to a new routine, says Sharon Woodrum, a dog trainer in the Kansas City Metro. That routine is what your pets thrive on, she says.

“The more noise and drama you add to a situation, usually the more exciting and fun it is," says Woodrum. If your dog is anxious when you leave, she says not to make a big deal out of it.

“Maybe a few minutes before, that’s when you put the treats down or the food stuffed toy, let him distract himself and then you can leave.”

Woodrum says it’s a good idea to increase your pet’s daily exercise and to put on music or the TV while you're gone to help reduce anxiety.
