Events in Kansas City marking the 20th Anniversary of 9/11

Kansas City, MO – A number of somber, reflective, as well as quite physical events are happening this weekend in the Kansas City Metro to mark the 20th Anniversary of the terror attacks on September 11, 2001.

Students from Olathe West High have already set up 2,977 small US flags as a memorial on the south lawn of the Johnson County Administration Building. Each flag representing a victim of the 9/11 attacks.

The Overland Park Fire Department will hold a service Saturday morning at 7:30 at the 9/11 Memorial at the Fire Training Center at 12401 Hemlock.

The Dole Institute of Politics in Lawrence, KS is holding a "Music and Meditation" open house on Saturday afternoon. The institute houses two World Trade Center beams and is currently featuring a 9/11 poster exhibition.

The Kansas City 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb will be a “Climb on Your Own” event this year due to the pandemic, scheduled for 6:30 Sunday the 12th in downtown Kansas City.
Typically, 343 firefighters gather together to climb 110 stories at the Town Pavilion. That number representing the 343 firefighters who died at the twin towers on 9/11.

On Saturday evening, the Kansas City Monarchs baseball club is putting on a First Responders Night during its playoff run to pay tribute on the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
