Kansas City, MO – A fatal crash between two tractor-trailers on I-70 in Kansas City, Kansas early Friday morning caused the total shutdown of the interstate for several hours.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash was reported just before 8am and that they consider wet, rainy conditions as a factor. Their initial investigation shows that an eastbound pickup truck sideswiped a semi, forcing it through the median where it hit a semi in the oncoming westbound lanes.

Troopers say the driver of the westbound semi died, the driver of the semi in the eastbound lanes is expected to be OK. The driver of the pickup was taken to a hospital as a precaution, as reported by KMBC 9 News.

The eastbound lanes were reopened in the noon hour, the westbound lanes would remain closed for a few hours more.
