KANSAS CITY - Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has issued an executive order directing Kansans to lower the American flag to half-staff on Saturday, December 7th, in observance of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Executive Order #20-30 mandates that flags on all state buildings, grounds, and facilities will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset. This annual commemoration honors the memory of the devastating surprise attack on Pearl Harbor that occurred on December 7, 1941.

During the attack, 2,403 Americans lost their lives, and an additional 1,178 were wounded. The assault on the naval base in Hawaii proved to be a pivotal moment in United States history, directly leading to the country's entry into World War II.
