KANSAS CITY - The plow driver killed in Jackson County on Sunday had been with the county for decades.
Officials say that Everett Carter, age 61, was working to remove snow Sunday in the Blue Summit area of the county, when he stepped out of his truck and it started sliding on the slick roads , and struck Carter and a parked car. Carter later died of his injuries.
Officials said that Carter had worked for the county for 40 years, with the last eight for public works. He was just a few weeks away from retirement.
In a statement, county leaders said Carter’s death is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by public servants.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal incident. Funeral arrangements are pending.
