KANSAS CITY - Gateway Pet Guardians in East St. Louis is in desperate need of fosters or people who want to adopt dogs and cats, not because of over-crowding, but because the shelter's A-C has stopped working.

And Gateway Pet Guardians Director Jill Henke tells KMOX, because of the dangerously hot weather, she doesn't know when A-C repairs can be made, plus their H-VAC system is old and parts are not easy to come by.

Henke says they are in a scramble right now, one trying to get people out to repair it because obviously there are a lot of calls coming in from people who need A-C repairs.

Henke says they have about 40 medium to large dogs and 40 adult cats that can be fostered or adopted. Call 618-433-3145 or email placement@gatewaypets.org.

Gateway Pet Guardians is open today (Wednesday) to Friday 12:00 to 6:00 or Saturday 9:00 to 3:00.

Gateway Pet Guardians is located at 725 North 15th Street in East St. Louis.
