Kansas City, MO – "Giving Tuesday" is a day meant to encourage people to put aside some money and make donations to local organizations that strive to do good for their neighbors.
The Tuesday following Thanksgiving has been dubbed "Giving Tuesday", a nationwide effort by nonprofits and charities to be involved with the holiday shopping season and the branding of shopping days like "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday".
"We know 2020 hit nonprofits hard just like every other sector," said Emily Hayne, director of learning at Nonprofit Connect, a Kansas City umbrella organization for local nonprofits.

"Some are hoping to raise a modest $5,000, while others say the money they get on Giving Tuesday, makes up 50% of their budget," said Hayne.
Hayne said you do not have to donate a lot of cash to help make a difference.
"Make small dollar amounts, less the cost of a Netflix subscription. And continue to do that month after month. Many nonprofits depend on that," said Hayne.
Hayne added if someone doesn't have money to give, then perhaps one could give of their time by volunteering at a nonprofit.
