KANSAS CITY - The respiratory illness season is in full swing and Kansas is among the states being hit the hardest.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than half the country is reporting high flu activity in some 35 states. And there’s been more than 63,000 flu-related hospitalizations across the country so far.

The CDC includes Kansas on its high activity list - one of the many states with the most ER visits for respiratory illnesses ranging from the common cold, to covid, to the flu and respiratory syncytial virus or RSV.

The CDC is also reporting wastewater testing results for Kansas are coming back as very high for viral activity.

Missouri’s health department is also reporting high flu activity, which is trending upwards.
