KDHE issues warning of high West Nile virus risk across Kansas

KANSAS CITY – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a warning that the entire state is at high risk for West Nile Virus, a disease commonly carried by mosquitoes.

The KDHE recommends using bug spray, part of its “three D’s” for combating the West Nile virus:


  • Drain

Drain standing water, where mosquitoes live and breed.

  • Dress

Dress in long sleeves and pants, when the weather allows.

  • Deet

Use mosquito repellent labeled with ‘deet’.
