KANSAS CITY – A KCPD police officer, his K9 partner, and a pedestrian were all killed in a crash on Wednesday night.

Just after 10:15pm a car crashed into the officer's cruiser near Benton Blvd. and Truman Rd., according to a Kansas City police spokesperson. That impact caused the cruiser to strike a person walking nearby.

The pedestrian, as well as the K9 police dog, died at the scene.

The police officer, a 20-year veteran of the KCPD, was rushed to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to the department.

The driver of the car that crashed into the police cruiser had minor injuries and was detained for questioning.

KCPD Chief Stacey Graves was expected to brief the public later on Thursday.
