KANSAS CITY - A Lenexa man stands accused of killing his wife and son.

Todd Michael Donovan, 53, was charged Saturday by the Johnson County District Attorney's Office with two counts of first-degree murder.

The Lenexa Police Department says officers were called to a home near Hallet Street and Mullen Road around 8:20 Friday night on reports of gunshots.
When they got there, officers contacted the suspect on the phone and tried to talk him out of the home. He refused and the standoff began.

After hours of trying to reach a peaceful resolution, police felt there was no other option, sending in tactical teams around 2 am. They quickly took the suspect into custody, rushing him to a nearby hospital after what may have been an overdose.

Officers found two people, a man and a woman, dead inside the home. The two victims were later identified as Tyler and Sheila Donovan, Todd’s son and wife.

Todd Donovan is also facing criminal charges for allegedly shooting the neighbor's dog as well.
