
KANSAS CITY – Kansas City police are investigating a traffic fatality involving a man in a wheelchair.
Authorities say the man in the wheelchair was crossing southbound 49 Highway, just before the Red Bridge Exit, around 10:30 Wednesday night when he was struck by a car traveling south. At the time, the car driver was merging toward the right shoulder to yield to a fire truck with its emergency lights and siren on.
The man in the wheelchair was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the car was not hurt.
This case marks the 84th traffic fatality of the year in Kansas City.
