KANSAS CITY - The city of fountains has a new City Manager.
Mayor Quinton Lucas has appointed Mario Vasquez to the role, following a comprehensive selection process that included multiple interviews and straw poll votes from the city council.
Vasquez’s career with the city started 28 years ago as an entry level planner and he’s since served as the Director of City Planning and Development and Assistant City Manager.
Vasquez will now oversee all city departments and operations, manage a workforce of thousands of employees, and manage a multi-billion-dollar budget.
Vasquez takes over for Brian Platt, who was fired earlier this year after a jury’s decision to award former communications manager Chris Hernandez $900,000 in a whistleblower lawsuit.
Hernandez had alleged that Platt directed staff to lie to the media.
