KANSAS CITY – Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas has a new idea to help combat crime in a number of entertainment districts around town.

After seeing a sharp increase in burglaries and break-ins in recent years, Mayor Lucas has heard the calls from city business owners and is seeking to take further action with an overnight police presence.

He says having a fixed overnight police presence in these areas would be a major deterrent to criminals hoping to cash in while these businesses are closed. The City Council Finance, Governance and Public Safety Committee will discuss the $1-million proposal on January 28th.

This proposal comes just months after the creation of the Back to Business Fund in Kansas City.

That effort works reactively, freeing up funding for the businesses that were targeted to make repairs and get back to business.
