KANSAS CITY - Mayor Quinton Lucas joined Kansas City’s Morning News today, where he vowed a crackdown on illegal sideshows and street racing, in the wake of a police officer being run over by an ATV driver trying to flee authorities.
The incident happened Saturday night at Truman and Main, when the ATV driver popped a wheelie while trying to avoid a tire deflation device and drove over the officer, leaving him with serious head injuries.
Lucas says there will be additional enforcement all summer long, as the roads “won’t be given over to people (on ATVs and dirt bikes) who look to terrorize” others in the city.

The officer was hospitalized with a serious head injury, but has since been released and is now recovering at home. The suspect (pictured below) remains at large.

During today's conversation, Lucas also addressed an effort in the Missouri legislature to allow guns on public transportation, saying he doesn’t see it being a solution to anything, “I don’t know what problem they’re trying to solve.”
