KANSAS CITY - A Missouri couple is facing criminal charges after attempting a circumcision at home. The incident happened last week in Morgan County, which is near the Lake of the Ozarks.
Court records say a man attempted a circumcision on a boy, and a woman helped with the botched procedure. Asked afterwards if he was medically trained, the man told a sheriff's deputy that he was not, but had done some research and prayed a blessing.
The man said he used a utility knife to attempt the circumcision and wasn't prepared for all the bleeding. The woman said she was hesitant, but helped.
As it did not go as planned, they took the child to a hospital and staff there contacted the authorities and that led to five children being removed from the home.
Both the woman and man are charged with child abuse and the man is also charged with unauthorized practice of medicine or surgery.
