SAINT LOUIS – As gas prices climb, Governor Mike Parson is reluctant to say whether he supports a temporary repeal of Missouri's gas and grocery taxes.

Missouri lawmakers are considering legislation that would temporarily suspend the state gas and grocery taxes to provide some financial relief for Missourians.

Governor Parson said he wants to let the legislative process play out. "It needs to go through the process and we'll see what happens."

However, he's vocal about America being energy independent, "finally shutting off that gas and oil from Russia. Again we need to depend on ourselves. If COVID-19 didn't teach us anything it ought to teach us that we need to depend on America, and we need to depend on our states and ourselves."

Parson says when you look at the price of fuel in Russia, compared to here, it shows domestic oil and energy needs to be tapped into in Missouri.
