KANSAS CITY - While many across the Kansas City Metro have already cast a ballot, or will between now and election day, there are hundreds of thousands who could vote, but likely won't.

Based on turnout in the 2020 presidential race, about a third of adults in the KC Metro will not fill out a ballot, equaling more than a half-million people.

While some are unable to vote due to barriers like illness, disability, or a lack of transportation, a large chunk say it's because they don't believe their vote matters.

An Ipsos poll following the 2020 election found that a majority of respondents who didn't vote felt it has little impact on their lives, and wouldn't change how the country is run. Others said they're only one person, so their vote "doesn't make a difference."

For the vote on the Missouri side of stateline, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas is urging everyone to research the language of the numerous ballot measures and then get out there and vote.

Mayor Lucas spoke about the upcoming election, along with being in Las Vegas for the Chiefs victory on Sunday. He also gave hints on his costume plans on Halloween this morning on Kansas City's Morning News. Listen to the full interview here:

Mayor Lucas can be heard live every Monday morning at 7:30 on Kansas City's Morning News on KMBZ 98.1 fm with Wink Sterrett and Amy Anderson.
