KANSAS CITY — The last major expansion at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art was in 2007, the opening of the underground Bloch Building, topped with the lenses, those glowing glass pavilions. Now, the museum looks to transform more of the exterior of its campus.
The museum is planning a $170 million expansion to build a cohesive new experience, joining the sculpture park with the existing buildings to create a gathering space outside the museum itself.
An international design competition brought in more than 180 submissions, which has been whittled down to six design choices. The museum says the finalists are some of the most respected designers in museum architecture.
The museum is seeking the public's feedback on the designs. Explore the designs and provide feedback here.
