Jefferson City, MO – Early rising fishermen, football fans and many businesses that sell alcohol in Missouri will be happy to hear about a new law going into effect next weekend.
Starting Aug. 28, Missourians will be able to buy beer, wine and liquor as early as 6 a.m. on Sunday, aligning with the same time as every other day of the week. It's part of Senate Bill 126 that was approved this year, which revamped some state liquor laws.
Currently, no liquor could be sold before 9 a.m. on Sundays.
Supporters of the bill say it will help adult beverage distributors, Kansas City Chiefs fans headed to tailgate before early kickoffs and local fishermen and women who like to get on the water before the sunrises.
“Missouri’s old Sunday sales law created confusion and inconvenience for consumers, and limited sales for retailers,” says the bill's sponsor, Sen. Justin Brown of Rolla, according to the Post-Dispatch. “Senate Bill 126 removes the inconsistency in the law and makes every day the same as the next when it comes to liquor sales.”
