KANSAS CITY – Kansas City police are searching for the driver responsible for a fatal hit and run crash.
Authorities say around 9:30 Tuesday night at Southbound Highway 71 and 59th Street, a grey Chrysler 200 that was stopped at a red light was rear-ended by a silver Chevrolet Cruz that was traveling at a high rate of speed.
The driver of the Chrysler was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Neither were wearing seat belts.
The driver and a passenger in the Cruz fled the scene on foot and remain at large.
This is the 83rd traffic fatality of the year in Kansas City, compared to 89 at this time last year.
