KANSAS CITY – The police chief of Overland Park, Kansas resigned on Tuesday, according to an evening email release by the city.
Frank Donchez had served in the position since 2014.
"Police Chief Frank Donchez resigned today," a city spokesperson wrote. "Deputy Chief Simon Happer is currently serving as interim police chief. The City will begin a national search for a new police chief as soon as possible."
No other information was provided around the seemingly abrupt resignation.
Donchez was the chief of police in Davenport, Iowa before taking the job in 2014.
He served as the police commissioner of the Bethlehem Police Department in Pennsylvania from April 2001 to July 2006.
He was a private practice attorney before heading to Davenport in March 2008.
