Police: Arrest made in Overland Park rape and theft case

UPDATE (Wednesday 6pm): An arrest has been made in Tuesday morning's sexual assault and theft in a neighborhood near Oak Park Mall, according to a spokesman with the Overland Park Police Department. OPPD was assisted by the KCK police department, and the suspect has been booked into the Johnson County jail.

KANSAS CITY – The Overland Park Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect in a sexual assault and theft.

Authorities say the sexual assault happened in a home near W. 97th Street and Reeder at around 2:40 Tuesday morning. The victim, said to be an older woman, didn't know the suspect, but was able to provide a description, saying he was a man was clean shaven with a stocky build, wearing a black jacket with a black beanie-style cap.

A person of interest in the case was later caught on video at a convenience store. The victim was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
