KANSAS CITY – A rash of fake toll collection texts are now going around in the Kansas City area.

The texts come from scammers, claiming a "Toll Roads Notice of Toll Evasion," saying the person has an unpaid toll and needs to respond within 12 hours or there will be trouble.

The text provides a link to copy - and complicated reply instructions and it ends with the so-called “Toll Roads team” wishing the target a good day.

The Kansas Turnpike Authority has said that anyone who receives an unsolicited text, suggesting it’s from the KTA or another toll agency, should not click the link.

Rather they are encouraged to file a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.
