KANSAS CITY – It was a big opening weekend for recreational marijuana sales in Missouri.
Jack Cardetti of the Missouri Cannabis Trade Association says $12.7 million was spent on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. He says that's double what Illinois took in when recreational marijuana was legalized there 3 years ago.
"Illinois has twice the population as Missouri, yet Missouri's opening day of marijuana sales almost doubled what we saw in Illinois on opening day back in January of 2020," said Cardetti.
Cardetti also notes that voters only passed the legalization of recreational cannabis a few months ago, and the coordination to make it all work has been extraordinary.
