KANSAS CITY – Royals owner John Sherman announced on Wednesday afternoon that team President Dayton Moore was leaving the organization. JJ Picollo has been put in charge of baseball operations effective immediately:

Moore had been with the Royals organization for the better part of two decades, joining the team as their General Manager back in June of 2006. Moore brought a World Series title in 2015, along with a second World Series appearance the year prior, but the time since has been hard; when the Royals' season ends in a couple weeks, it'll mark the sixth straight year they've finished under .500. Moore released a statement via an article written by The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Andy McCullough, saying "I’m really thankful for the opportunity. I’m proud of our culture and what we accomplished in Kansas City. I’m disappointed we weren’t able to see it through. But I have confidence in John Sherman, J.J. Picollo and the entire baseball operations department to finish it off.”
