KANSAS CITY - The Sedgwick County Commission has approved the county's 2026 budget.
The final total stands at $591,264,680, with a property tax levy of $208,049,217, which comes out to 27.553 mills.
Commissioners made three main cuts, removing an accreditation manager position from the 911 call center. The county will also cut funding to the auto license fund for the tag office, from roughly $900 thousand to $500 thousand. The county has been funding the office, a state function, with local property tax dollars.
The county also will use greater than expected investment income to fund a $3.5 million payment to Exploration Place, amending the last 2 years of their prior funding agreement.
Prior to the meeting, the mill levy was estimated to be 27.881 mills. In all, the cuts totaled around nearly $2 million.
