KANSAS CITY – Tornadoes touched down in several areas of eastern Kansas on Monday evening, as a series of powerful thunderstorms moved across the region.
A tornado hit part of Ottawa, causing structural damage and knocking out power across much of the city. City leaders said a tornado warning was issued around 7:25 p.m. as the storm tracked west to east through Franklin County.
And a tornado touched down in Miami County on Monday evening, leaving behind significant damage in the Hillsdale area.
The sheriff's office said homes, businesses and other structures were impacted as the storm moved through the community.

The American Red Cross announced more than 50 homes in Hillsdale were affected by the tornado. The organization says it has a disaster team there with emergency relief supplies and are actively assessing the damage as the situation continues to unfold.

The National Weather Service says the region is set to have more strong to severe thunderstorms this evening, Tuesday.
