KANSAS CITY - If you are a fan of 'The Amazing Race' you'll notice that one of the pairings this season will have Missouri ties.
Season 37 of the hit CBS show 'The Amazing Race' premieres Wednesday, March 5, and among the 14 pairings that are participating this season includes father-son duo Jeff and "Pops" Bailey, who are both lumberjacks from St. Louis.
"We get a chance to lay back and watch all the action that we put in," said "Pops" Bailey on 'The Chris and Amy Show' Wednesday on KMOX.
The Baileys' says it was Jeff's idea to go on 'The Amazing Race' with his father Pops, citing their competitive nature.
"If it’s physical I usually win and anything mental” joked Jeff Bailey. "Pops is focused, that’s why we made a good team on the race."
Both Baileys gave insight into the filming of the season, saying during the 30 days they were participants, they didn't have much contact with anyone on the outside.
The Baileys say the moment they arrived in Los Angeles for the first part of the race, they had to give their phones to producers. No technology was allowed or talking to friends and family until after the show was completed.
The Baileys say even during filming, they didn't talk much with the other participants.
"Only during challenges we could talk (with other participants), but going back to the hotel or whatever, no conversation," said "Pops" Bailey.
Jeff Bailey says at every stop they went to, there were fans and because of that, the producers wouldn't let them leave their hotel room or even let Jeff go to work out in the hotel gym.
"Everywhere we went, those fans knew we were there, taking pictures and recording," said Jeff Bailey. "They're excited. You love to see that excitement surrounding this show, but because of safety concerns and everything else."
Both Baileys gave a preview of the upcoming season, saying it was a season full of surprises, beginning in the first episode Wednesday night.
"That is not an over exaggeration, you are going to be seeing a different twist and turn on every episode," said Jeff. "The first twist was that it was a double elimination. Instead of one team being eliminated, it was two."
Most people would assume the toughest part of participating would being unable to tell people, including distant relatives, about how the experience, but Jeff Bailey says it hasn't been that hard for them.
"Pops and I are pretty private, pretty lowkey guys," said Jeff Bailey. "We go to work everyday, we don't really put ourselves out there as much. So not telling everybody and the masses hasn't been that hard."
Bailey says that they did have to lie to people close them about where they were at during that time period when they were participating over the summer.
