KANSAS CITY - A Missoui man was found guilty of shooting a football coach over his son's playing time.

Daryll B. Clemmons of St. Louis, 45, was found guilty of assault and armed criminal action, related to an incident that took place in 2023 near a practice field in Sherman Park in the Kingsway West neighborhood.

According to officials, Clemmons had been at odds with his son's football coach, Shaquille Latimore, 34, over the amount of playing time his son had been getting. Latimore was a volunteer coach for the City Rec Legends Football League.

One day, Latimore and Clemmons got into a verbal argument during a practice. Latimore, who was armed, handed his gun over to a friend and told Clemons they should fight with fists.

Clemons, who was also armed, rejected the proposal and shot Latimore five times. Clemmons then fled but turned himself in to police later that evening.

A group of nine- an 10-year-olds were playing nearby at the time of the shooting.

“Violence, especially in youth sports, is completely unacceptable and undermines the purpose of these programs – teaching teamwork, discipline, and respect,” said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore.

Clemmons is scheduled to sentenced on March 13, 2025.
