NEW YORK – A man from Kansas City, Kansas was hit in the shoulder by a stray bullet near Times Square early Wednesday morning, NYPD said.

The 44-year-old man was shot shortly after 2 a.m. near West 38th Street and Eighth Avenue where two men were arguing, and one fired a gun, striking the victim in the shoulder, an NYPD spokesperson said.

Police do not believe he was the intended target, the spokesperson added.

The bullet fractured his collarbone, but he was able to be released so he could fly back home to KCK, the Daily News reported.

The victim told police he attended Tuesday's Mets-Phillies game in Philadelphia and then took a train or bus back to New York to return to his hotel, officials said. He then went into a store and said he got shot and they called an ambulance.

The gunman, who was wearing all black, fled northbound on Eighth Avenue.

Police later said a person of interest had been taken into custody.
