KANSAS CITY - A suspect is dead and four officers are injured after an officer-involved shooting south of Topeka Saturday morning.
Just before 10:25 a.m., the Osage County Sheriff's Office and Kansas Highway Patrol were dispatched to a domestic disturbance north of Carbondale after a woman called 911. Law enforcement found a man, identified as Stephen M. McMillan, 22, outside the residence. During the encounter, three deputies and two KHP troopers fired their weapons. The three deputies, a trooper, the suspect and the suspect's 77-year-old grandfather were struck.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded, cleared the residence and rendered aid to the injured. All law enforcement officers and the suspect's grandfather were transported to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka. The trooper was later transferred to KU Medical Center. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two Osage County deputies underwent surgery and are in good condition and the other was discharged from the hospital. The KHP trooper and the grandfather are expected to recover.
