Kansas City, MO – Stores around the KC Metro are packed and people are checking items off their holiday shopping list one by one. According to the National Retail Federation, Americans are expected to spend an average of $998 on gifts this year.

KMBZ’s Mike Phillips stopped by the Country Club Plaza to ask people what they're shopping for.

“Whatever strikes my eye.  Nothing in particular.  If I find something for the babies, that’s fine.  If I find something for me, that’s even better.  And of course, you can’t forget the beaus,” said one woman.

“I want warm, fuzzy boots!” said another woman.

Clothes, toys, and gift cards top the list most years. One woman is looking to do more with her home.

“Furniture is on back order. I want furniture, and my kids want air pods,” she said.

“Inflation is here to stay. So I have to be selective on what I buy,” said one out-of-town visitor to the Plaza.
