KANSAS CITY – An hours-long standoff has concluded at a house where three Kansas City police officers were struck by gunfire while attempting to serve a search warrant, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
One man was found dead inside the home and one woman was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after the highway patrol and FBI SWAT secured the house.
All three KCPD officers suffered non-life threatening wounds, but remained hospitalized on Wednesday in a serious but stable condition, according to KCPD Chief Stacey Graves.
"Three of our officers were struck," Kansas City, Missouri Police Chief Stacey Graves said. "They did return fire. They self-transported to a hospital and all three are thankfully in non-life threatening condition."
The officers were working with the Jackson County Drug Task Force to serve a search warrant at a house at 23rd Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard around 10 p.m.
The situation escalated into a standoff. Overnight, two people came out of the house and surrendered to police. The standoff, along with a large police presence from multiple jurisdictions, continued into the morning hours, as police weren't sure if there was another person inside.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol, which typically takes over investigations involving police shootings, said the officers knocked on the door and announced their presence, and someone opened fire as the officers entered the house.
