St. Louis, MO – Monday marked five years since retired Saint Louis Police Captain and then Moline Acres Police Chief David Dorn was shot and killed.
The killing happened during a night of rioting in Saint Louis following the death of George Floyd. Prior to Dorn's murder four Saint Louis Police Officers were shot and injured in an unrelated incident.
Dorn was responding to a burglar alarm for his friend who owned Lees' Pawn Shop when he was shot and killed.
On Sunday, two park benches were dedicated in Saint Louis Place Park in honor of Captain Dorn.
One of his children, Debra Dorn, says she can't believe it has already been five years and would do anything to hear his voice again, especially when she would cook for him. She would run the food down the street and say "Dad, I cooked something for you. "And I would give anything to hear him say oooh baby, oooh baby, it's so good. I want some more, I'm gonna give you your containers so you can fill them back up."
Stephan Cannon was convicted of First Degree Murder and received life for shooting and killing Dorn. Co-defendant Mark Jackson testified against Cannon in a plea deal and received a 15-year suspended prison sentence including five years probation.
At the time of the burglary at Lee's Pawn and Jewelry Shop, there were seven people see on surveillance video. A third person was charged with burglary and other charges.
