Kansas City, MO – In the early minutes of Friday, the sustained sound of gunfire echoed off the old buildings and down the narrow alleys of the West Bottoms district just below downtown KCMO.

Kansas City police say that just after midnight, early Nov. 6, two people were shot and killed, and at least two others wounded in a gun battle at a Phillips 66 gas and convenience store near the corner of 12th St. & Wyoming.

Residents living in a nearby building that overlooks the gas station, described hearing three long blasts of gunfire. One resident says as they called 911, they peered out their window to see several cars departing the gas station quickly. Other residents said they saw people with long guns, and watched as those who who shot being loaded into cars.

Once police arrived, they found one man dead in the parking lot of the gas station. The other fatality, a woman who had been rushed to a hospital from the scene in a private car.

Uniformed officers cordoned off a wide area around the gas station, blocking off several streets, saying the scene was quite large due to the number of people and vehicles involved. A large number of detectives were on scene to determine exactly what had happened.

The investigation continues.
