KANSAS CITY - Tyson Foods announced Monday that it's ending operations in Emporia, Kansas.

The company made the announcement in a notification to employees and city administrators saying their current beef processing operations in Emporia will come to an end on or about February 14th, 2025. The move will affect over 800 employees.

Officials said the decision is part of a business strategy to operate more efficiently.  Around 200 employees will be shifted to Tyson operations in Holcomb. The remainder will be eligible for transfer to other Tyson plants.

The plant in Emporia is the city's third-largest employer and has operated for 60 years.
