KANSAS CITY - On Tuesday, the Wichita City Council approved a common consumption area in Delano.
Starting September 5, adults can buy alcohol from local restaurants and bars and drink it on the sidewalk legally. The area consists of Douglas Avenue from Seneca Street to McLean Boulevard, Sycamore Street from Douglas Avenue to Maple Street, McLean Boulevard from Douglas Avenue to Maple Street, and Handley Street from Douglas Avenue extending 300 feet to the north.
Retailers adjoining the consumption area will now have to apply for an appropriate license and then will be allowed to sell alcohol in designated containers that can be open within the designated consumption area. The consumption area will be in effect on Fridays and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
