KANSAS CITY - A Wichita man is dead after a motorcycle crash in the southwest part of the city Friday night.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred at 11:25 p.m. near I-235 and West Street.
The motorcycle driver was northbound on I-235 when for an unknown reason he went through the median and struck the guardrail. He was thrown from the motorcycle and into the guardrail and a fence before coming to rest in the roadway.
Meanwhile, the motorcycle crossed the median and southbound lanes of I-235, went through the fence before coming to rest on Bolin Drive, west of I-235.
The victim, identified by the KHP as Jess Chavez, 51, was pronounced dead at the scene. The KHP says he was not wearing a helmet.
